Step by step

  1. 1Set the bench to a 30-45° incline and sit with a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. 2Press the dumbbells up to the starting position at shoulder height.
  3. 3Lower them with control until your upper arms are parallel to the floor.
  4. 4Press back up, bringing the dumbbells close together at the top.

Inhale on the way down, exhale as you press up.

Common mistakes

  • Setting the incline too steep, shifting load to the shoulders
  • Flaring the elbows out

  • Keep your wrists stacked directly over your elbows.
